Konstantinos Papagiannakis

Konstantinos (Kostas), joined Border Archaeology in 2017.

Before moving to England, Kostas worked as a Senior Archaeological Officer for the Greek Ministry of Culture for more than 20 years; he oversaw a large district of the historical centre of Athens, directing excavations, issuing building permits to the public, protecting and promoting the cultural heritage of the city.

He has also worked on several projects with the British School at Athens as a member.

Kostas studied Classical Archaeology in UCL (B.A.) and holds a Master’s degree in Archaeology & Prehistory from the University of Sheffield.

His interests include the Early Iron Age period in Athens after the Mycenaean civilisation collapse (sub-Mycenaean phase). His other passion is prehistoric pottery.

He has published articles, monographs and reports both in Greek and English and has participated in international conferences.

You can find Kostas, out in the fields, running excavations, when he is not busy with Post-Ex duties.
