Summary
The five listed buildings, ranging in date from the 17th to the 19th century, represent a well-preserved example of a complex of historic buildings with strong connections with the brewing industry, comprising a 17th century inn (No. 21 Bridge Street), The Cottage, an 18th century ‘maltster’s cottage’, two late 18th/early 19th century residences both built for wealthy maltsters (River View and No. 23 Bridge Street) and a well-preserved, substantial 19th century malthouse range (The Maltings). The programme of building recording also examined the extant remains of the modern office buildings which were built by Arup Associates in the late 1970s-early 1980s to the W of the earlier complex.
A detailed drawn, written and photographic record was produced of the buildings in question.
