Statement of Significance
What is a Statement of Significance?
A Statement of Significance may be requested by a local council with regard to an application for alterations to a Listed or a non-listed building of historic importance often located within a Conservation Area.
It is an assessment of the intrinsic significance in heritage terms of a building and its immediate setting prior to development.
Using Historic England criteria, a Statement of Significance describes the relative importance of a specific building and its setting in architectural and historical terms. This will be informed by limited documental research and a site visit.
What Happens Next?
The report is submitted with the planning application and based on the response from the Conservation Officer and or Historic England, it may be that a further programme of work may be required or not.
