The Great Barn at Harmondsworth

This is one of the largest and best-preserved structures of its type in the country, described as ‘The Cathedral of Middlesex’ by Sir John Betjeman.

Stephen Priestley MA MCIfA our Director of Research, undertook a substantial programme of documentary research on the history of the Great Barn significantly informing the production of this Historic England monograph.

Stephen transcribed a large number of medieval Latin manuscript records at Winchester College, the National Archives and other repositories and also advised on various points of interpretation.
